What you can expect when you join us

During the last ten years of teaching Pilates, I've experimented with loads of different ways to help you start a Pilates practice that'll actually make a difference to your life - reducing your aches and pains and making you feel stronger and more flexible.

Because I know that when you feel stronger and more flexible, it helps you keep doing all the other things you love doing.

So I designed the course based on the things my clients told me about the start of their journey.

"Who's the Goodbye Achy Back course best for?"

Our courses are best for women who aren't ready to accept that their stiff joints, sore back or achy hips are "just how it is".

Maybe it's wear and tear. Maybe it's from sitting or standing all day at work. Or maybe it's one of those delightful issues common to women of our age, like osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis or frozen shoulder.

Whatever the reason, the good news is that a regular Pilates practice can really help you to feel better, because we take care of your whole body - including the little muscles that often get forgotten; and your mind - giving you a whole hour each week to focus on your own well being.

"Why's the Goodbye Achy Back course five weeks?"

I know that the first couple of times you do something new, you spend more time looking around to see what everyone else is doing, than actually doing it yourself.

It can all feel a bit confusing, even with your instructor there to help you

It's why I invite you to join us for an initial five week block - because I've found that five weeks is the "sweet spot" where you've got to know some of the exercises and are starting to feel some of the benefits including reduced aches and pains and the mental space that an hour to yourself gives you.

This means you have a much better idea of whether Pilates is for you versus just dropping in for a taster class.

"What will I be doing during each class?"

All our classes are led by an experience qualified Pilates instructor who plans each class so you'll be exercising in lots of different positions while mostly lying on a mat (although sometimes standing, kneeling or seated).

Each class lasts for around an hour and consists of a gentle warm up, the main exercises and a cool down and stretch. Sometimes, the class will also be using different bits of small equipment like resistance bands, small weights, foam rollers or soft balls to keep things interesting.

During the class, your instructor will give you exercise options that are safe and effective for you. She'll also be walking round the room to help you do the exercises in the way that's best for your body on that day.

There's no need to worry about not being able to do something - we always have lots of different variations to make it achievable for every body.

"Are Goodbye Achy Back courses only for beginners?"

You'll be joining one of our existing classes. And most of them are suitable for both beginners and improvers. This means that whichever level you're at, you'll find that the exercises can be tailored to your needs.

If you've already been doing Pilates for a while and are looking for something a little more challenging, we have classes for you too. Just let me know where you are in your Pilates journey and I'll help you find the class that'll suit you best.

"How much is the Goodbye Achy Back course?"

Your investment for your five week course is £58.

You'll learn fab exercises and releases you can use any time, to help you feel better AND get a whole hour to yourself every week, which is priceless!

"What are the best things about the Goodbye Achy Back courses?"

All our instructors are, obviously, passionate about helping you to feel stronger and more flexible. So yes, by the end of the five week course, we hope that you'll already start to notice a difference.

But what everyone tells me really makes the difference is that our classes are super relaxed and friendly.

The groups are mostly made up of women aged 40-70+ so expect some chit-chat, laughing and groaning.

"What happens at the end of the Goodbye Achy Back course?"

If you've enjoyed the course and feel like it's helped you, I'll invite you to join us on an ongoing basis.

Our classes run as a membership. Once you've signed up, you're guaranteed a space in your class of choice and then all you need to do is turn up for your class every week.

We make it as flexible as possible so if you can't make your regular class, you can swap to another one simply by sending me a text message or email. No weekly booking into classes, no fuss.

Frequently asked questions about our Pilates classes.

I know that starting a new class can be scary and you've probably got questions. So here are the answers to a few of the most frequently asked:

What actually is Pilates?

Put simply, it's a series of exercises, done on a mat, where you'll focus on slow, controlled movements so you can improve how your body feels for the other 23 hours of your day! You can read more here.

What should I wear?

Wear anything that's comfortable and that allows you to move freely. Doesn't have to be lycra leggings - jogging bottoms are fine too.

What equipment do I need?

You need a mat (something like this is good - affiliate link means I make a very small commission at no cost to you if you buy); and a cushion or block for your head.

I do have a couple of spare mats for loan, but my clients all find they're more comfortable on their own mat.

I'm a complete beginner, is that OK?

Yes absolutely! Most of our classes are great for beginners and I can help you pick the best one for you.

But will I be the only person who can't do the exercises?

Every body is different and every day is different. That means we always give lots of options to make sure that everyone can get something out of each exercise every time.

I've got a health problem or injury that means I can't do certain moves, is that OK?

Yes, absolutely! We'll find alternative exercises and ways to modify the movements to make them work for you.

What if everyone stares at me?

The only person watching you is your instructor (and we watch you like a hawk!). Everyone else in the class is too focused on their own exercises.
